ARTS VOLUNTEERING PROJECTS 2021

SUSIE BEALE AWARD 14/15TH JUNE 2021

Bury C of E Primary School was awarded the Susie Beale (2020). They invited Jon Edgar a local sculptor to come into the school and work with the yrs 5 & 6. They worked over two days sculpting heads of a local resident. Each child began with a stick attached to a small board. They then built up the head by layering clay until they were ready to add the features. The results were amazing and each one had its own personality.

VISIT TO MONCRIEFF-BRAY GALLERY, 17TH JUNE 2021

We visited the Moncrieff-Bray Gallery for their Summer Exhibition with Year 5s from Duncton Primary School. It was an exciting morning as the children, some very talented, were so enthusiastic. They were guided by our resident Art Educator Maureen Wells who went back to school with them where they painted some beautiful pictures in the afternoon.

POP-UP ART EXHIBITION IN THE PETWORTH SUMMER FESTIVAL,
14-17TH JULY 2021

Our 4th PopUp Art Exhibition was held in the United Reformed Church in Petworth during the Festival. Work from 17 schools was displayed in the church and more of their work was put on a memory stick which ran on a loop during the exhibition. It highlighted the interest and talent there is amongst our youngsters in this area which we believe should be fostered and encouraged. This was a great platform for them to display this talent. It was wonderful to see the excitement on the children’s faces when they recognised their own work hanging in public. Jon Edgar was kind enough to gave a talk in the Leconfield Hall using his workshop at Bury School to illustrate the importance of nurturing imagination in the young. He then guided groups round the exhibition. It was a very successful few days.

DRUMMING POETS, IN THE PETWORTH AUTUMN FESTIVAL,
4 TO 8TH & 11TH OCTOBER 2021

Our Drumming Poets event took place in Petworth at the beginning of October to coincide with National Poetry Day. Antosh our young poet came down from London again and 6 local schools benefitted from his keen talent and also his ability to encourage the children to compose some wonderful lines and use truly exciting vocabulary. We went into the Park for inspiration and then returned to the Sylvia Beaufoy Centre to develop and extend the children’s ideas with rhythm and percussion. The small groups then performed their pieces. The following week we took part in the Breakfast Poetry event in the Petworth Literary Festival where Antosh displayed his talent with words and sounds. Sadly no children attended the event but their poetry was displayed and a video clip of their performances was played.
